Spring Break - Day 1

Kennedy Space Center

This was a great field trip day since we had been studying astronomy.

The crawler transporter pictured above carried the shuttle to the launch pad. It weighs 6 million pounds and moves 1 mile an hour when loaded. The picture below shows the “road” it uses. The two 40 ft wide lanes are separated by a 50 ft wide grass median. The gravel you see is 4-8 inches deep and all the layers of the road together are 7 feet deep.

After leaving KSC we stopped by the beach for a windy evening romp in the sand. Back tomorrow for swimming!
