Flowers

I rarely do flowers these days. Actually, it has become easier than I thought to turn down opportunities. It's sooo labor intensive to buy, arrange, and deliver with the crew in tow and there are so many other things to do with that time. Sometimes I do them and the result is satisfying. But finished products aside, look at the raw material! Look at the colors and textures and shapes. And these are just eight or nine little kinds. There are hundreds and thousands more flowers even more fantastic than these...not to mention trees, bugs, birds, fish, animals...not to mention mountains and clouds and galaxies...not to mention songs and paintings and cathedrals, equations and antibiotics...not to mention people. And we're only seeing fallen things: "groaning" "subject to frustration" and "in bondage to decay." The kids and I talked a little this week about why God made so much variety in His world. It gives just the tiniest glimpse of His own beauty, wisdom, and infiniteness. I hope they will maintain a sense of delight and exhilaration in God's world and learn to worship not the creation, but the Creator who is forever praised.
