Happy Birthday to You; You Live in a Zoo (how true!)

Today we had Nate's "friend party."
He wanted to play zoo keeper (a game we played last year for his zoo birthday.) Conveniently, there is a Curious George episode about the zoo, so we watched that and then the boys hunted for escaped zoo animals around the house.

The sisters got to join in on lunch and cupcakes (which were soooo much

easier than the Curious George cake!!) Happy Birthday Nate!!

Finding Presents

Erik hid all Nate's presents around the house.

To find them, Nate followed string that ran from one present to the next.

Meg ran them all back to the family room.

The string trail ended in the recently completed playroom at Nate's new train table.

Nate's birthday cake request: Curious George.

Specifically a replica of this Curious George car. I had to glue many sections of cake together with frosting to create the shape. Due to a spring warm spell, the frosting became softer as the day wore on, and by cake time, poor George's car (pictured here pre-melt) looked like it had been in a fender bender and was in need of a good wash :)

Birthday Boys: Nate and Jud have the same birthday. (Jud and Jan are our friends and current apartment tenants.)

It's hard to believe we've lived in this house almost a year and a half and the kids are just now discvoring the joys of digging in the dirt!

Nate is very diligent about working on "the hole" everyday. (It's slow going.)



It's taking some creative logistical thinking for this Florida native (i.e. experience with sand only) to keep most of the red Georgia clay off the good clothes and out of the house. I guess it will be easier in the summer when we can strip everyone and squirt them down with the hose before they come in. Meanwhile, a few mud stains are a small price to pay for this kind of bliss.
