Project Day Reports

Well, I’m having some technical difficulties posting videos of everyone’s project day reports. Meg, Nate, and Kate each gave a great report (including PowerPoint) on the feature they had chosen before our trip. Meg: Yellowstone; Nate: Hoover Dam; Kate: Giant Sequoias. Nate and Kate also had models to display (see below). Next time you come over we can show you the videos.

Fall Project Day

Barbershop by Martin Gardener

When you visit the barber
And sit in his chair,
Don’t squirm
Like a worm
While he’s cutting your hair.
Don’t shiver
And quiver
And bounce up and down.
Don’t shuffle
And Snuffle
And act like a clown.
Each wiggle
Will jiggle
The blades of the shears.
Clip‐ clip,
Clip‐ clip.
Those scissors can slip
And snip
Off a tip
Of one of your tender pink ears!

Book Club

Meg is such an idea person. She and Nella dreamed up a book club and invited the kids on our end of the street. Being the skeptic that I am, I didn’t expect it to be popular. How wrong I was: a couple of months later it is still a hit with the under 8 crowd. Meg and Nella plan and prepare every Monday for read alouds, crafts, story reenactments and more. Great job girls!!

“Schoolmates”

Three cheers for the Frasers; they make our homeschooling experience more fun! Here we are on a field trip to the High to see the Dutch masters.

More Nature: Atlanta Botanical Garden

The current chapter in our botany studies includes carnivorous plants. We decided to dash into the bog garden at ABG, since they have several specimens there.

After a brief detour to the water lilies, we enjoyed finding numerous pitcher plants and some Venus fly traps. A garden employee happened to be working in that section and was kind enough to show us some tiny sundews as well. We even spotted Chihuly’s riff on pitcher plants in the lobby.

Yes, that is a bird dropping on our guest bed pillow.)
